Tarnish-Free Jewelry

I have been dragging my feet regarding my plans to put some crocheted necklaces and other crocheted jewelry in my Etsy shop. Summer is fading, and these are great for the summer. I've posted a few photos here of those I've done this year. I have learned a lot since those first few and cannot wait to show them off. I need to take photos, and soon.

If you do handcrafts, you should consider metal-free jewelry for those of us who have problems with tarnishing. I will be 70 in four weeks (how did THAT happen?), and I never had trouble with tarnishing until I went through chemo in '99. I suppose the meds caused an upheaval in my chemical balances. Whatever the reason, I cannot wear any metals without them turning my neck green after a few weeks. This is greatly worsened in the hot summers here in Nevada.

Someone sent me a necklace similar to these about a year ago. I fell in love with it because it was lightweight and it didn't tarnish. I loved the homey look. I loved the fact that if it was a hot, hot day and perspiration abounded, I could take that little necklace at the end of the day and soak it gently in a little cup of dish liquid, rinse it, and air dry it. So easy to freshen up.

I'm hoping that writing this post will motivate me to get busy and do something. There is still all of August plus in most of the country, the dog days of Summer, a good part of September.
For those of us with tarnishing problems, I have the whole year.
