Crafting Heritage

I’ve been working on my Etsy store. I checked some stores at Etsy, to compare their Welcome messages, their Profiles, and Policies. I began working on my own Profile. Doing so, I realized how craft-oriented my early years truly were.

As a child, I watched my mom knit or crochet for hours, exquisite work. She and daddy also made dipping drinking birds in our cellar in Philly. Dad had an acetylene torch that shaped the bird and sealed the liquid in its transparent belly. Mom and us kids dipped the heads in flocking, attached little wiggle eyes, and attached a feather on the top of the head. One of us put the bird on the stand; another tested to make sure each birds “dipped” into the water to “drink.”

She embroidered little ducks and chickens on infant rompers for one company, and glued rhinestones onto ladies’ fabric high-heel pumps. We all (mom and kids) glued rhinestones into costume jewelry for another company, and inserted Lord’s Prayer beads into the center of rhinestone crosses for another firm.

She’s gone, now, but the memories live on. So, I come by my love for handcrafts and a variety of ways to do them, honestly.

Dear Lord, thank you picking out the best possible mother for me!
