About Final Wishes

Not much to say tonight. Worried about a dear old friend. They just diagnosed a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lungs). We’ve been very worried because her oxygen levels just would not hold, no matter what the doctors did. Now we might at least have found the cause.

The good news is that in most cases, they can fix it. The bad news is that in some cases, they cannot. We will continue to hope.

For now, at 80, she is still saying she wants “to go home,” not “I’ve had it; let me go.” Still, we (myself and her middle-aged son) will see to her wishes. She does not want life-support of the ventilator-type, and we understand, and it is in writing.

Praying in this type of case is tricky. Half of me wants to pray for a complete healing, but also, only according to His will. If a healing for now would mean major suffering in the near future, it just prolongs her suffering and agony. So, we will pray that his will be done. That’s all we can do. But, as always, we will ask for his mercy and compassion, that if he can work it into his plans, we’d like to see her get another year or two of quality life. Quality is the key word. Quality for her is not the same as quality for me, or for you. Yep, it’s tricky.

Father in Heaven, you who know every cell in our bodies, look into Jane’s, and heal her if it be according to your plan, and if it will benefit her for a while in the future; either way, be merciful and we beg you to keep her suffering to a minimum, yet now our will, but thine, be done.
