Charity Projects

I love the thought of helping someone and I love the thought that someone in need is using something I made. With all the needy people in the world, how do I figure out who needs my help the most? I remember my mother making knitted hats and mufflers for the homeless, for about three winters, back in the early 90’s. Nowadays, it’s so easy to find groups who do the work of finding the needy, post what is needed, and do all the work of distributing to the needy.

Project Linus handles blankets, etc., for children. The crochet/knit group I belong to on Yahoo (invitation link on this page) just finished a project where we each sent 12” squares to one person who will assemble them into lapghans for a small children’s hospital. Another member is now collecting newborn hats, booties, outfits, and so on, for preemies, especially. A local group near me has long been providing handmade blankets and quilts for the needy.

Just a simple search (knit OR crochet charity) on the Internet will give you thousands of links. It’s a warm, fuzzy feeling to help out, and we crafters are a helping bunch - we can’t help it.
