At one time, when ladies got together to knit, crochet, or sew, they called themselves a “sewing circle.” They had a chance to get out of their own homes once a week, meet with others at someone’s home, and chat and do their crafts.
These groups are still popular, but most of them have catchy, clever names these days. Also, the ladies (and gents) are probably a mixture of those who want to get out of their homes and those who want to de-stress from their full-time jobs. Usually, they meet once a week, for about two hours.
I’d dearly love to start such a group in our 55+ mobile home community. We’ve tried once or twice with no success. Several mobile home communities near me have very successful groups. One focuses on projects for the homeless and other groups needing handcrafted items made with love.
Our own community surely must have at least a dozen crafters out of the 400+ households in here. The problem in our community is that they are either very active, or very private, or both. At least once a year, I try. This year, maybe we’ll get lucky. It would be fun sitting with others who love making their projects with their hands and their skills.
