It is so exciting to be into crocheting and knitting and other needlecrafts today. The Internet has made the world of crafts so much smaller and so much more adventurous. I can find patterns and ideas and materials from almost any country in the world.
That alone would be exciting. It’s even more exciting because it’s so easy to find conversion charts for these patterns. Great Britain’s patterns, at first, look as though they are written just like ours, but when you begin, you quickly find there are differences. Stitches have different names; some stitches seem the same but are not. Also, hooks and needles are different sizes. The charts that I can find on the Web show the comparisons so I can quickly convert the patterns.
It’s also fun to see what types of patterns and styles folks prefer in other countries. I love to see the way people from other lands combine colors and textures. I love to see what’s popular around the world.
Joining a group on a place like Yahoo is a great way to experience the handcrafts of other cultures. One group, the Gathering Room, is mentioned on the sidebar of this blog. You can easily click it and join in.
Dear Father, thank you for opening our minds and hearts to the differences and the sameness of other peoples.
