I’ve mentioned several times how handy it is to have some things ready-made in a handmade stash. Lots of what I put in there is small, but there are some bigger items. Today we had an 80th birthday party for a household member. It was at our mobile home park (55+), and it was “open” to all residents. I didn’t really expect all 435 households to show up. It’s hot here this week (112 degrees and up), but I had hoped at least a dozen would stop by. My main purpose was to give Jane a chance to see faces other than mine and her middle-aged son and our cat.
I wanted to give “favors” to those who were kind enough to show up. Of course, I wasn’t naive enough to think they came just for us - I think the pizza and soda might have been part of the draw. The favors had to be small - I didn’t want to lug a lot of big things over to the clubhouse.
I ended up taking about 18 crocheted coasters and 18 crocheted can/glass cozies. Out here, cold drinks sweat in the heat, a lot. It went really well. They got a big kick out of choosing from either box (coaster, cozy) and then also choosing colors. I had some in red, white, and blue, some in earth tones, and other colors, too.
Fifteen residents showed up and they were marvelous company for her. They also cleaned out my stash, which I loved. I don’t know which I get a bigger kick out of - having folks admire something I made, or having them admire it so much that they want all that I’ve got. It was fun. Now I have to get busy and build up my stash again. I think I need to fill up on baby items, too. I’ve been hearing of lots of them being due in the coming month or two.
Thank you, Dear Lord, for blessing my hands, that they might bring pleasure to others.
