Had to Get Whole Set of New Tires

I know a few of you will think it’s worrisome that I just had to get a whole new set of tires yesterday morning. But I actually see three great benefits from this.

What happened is that my front driver-side tire keeps getting mushy. Whenever I have air put in, two weeks later it’s mushy - not flat, just not like the others. My own mechanic didn’t notice anything unusual in my last few trips. However, in all of those trips, the car was never up in the air on a lift to see the problem.

It kept nagging at me. So, Saturday morning I was at Discount Tire when they opened at 8 am. We’ve used them for years. My tires were bought from them 2 years ago. Anyhow, I asked them to check for either a slow leak in the tire itself, or a stem problem. This is a free service they do for customers.

They didn’t even get further than the first jack-up when they called me right in. All 4 of my tires had bad wear on the inside edges, about an inch or more wide. On 3 of them, the steel was actually visible.

Of course it scared me. I told them I’d be back on the 11th when my SSA comes in. He said it was so dangerous they couldn’t let me leave like that. SO, they plopped on a whole new set and told me to come in on the 11th and begin making payments.

Most of you know I do not need another bill right now. Not at all.

Plus, I need to get an alignment, fast, so I do not ruin these new tires. That is why the other ones wore so badly in those areas.

Sad to say, my middle-aged nephew, who was like my son, and who died on Feb. 1st, kept stalling whenever I mentioned an alignment. He honestly did not think we needed one. I wanted one.

Back to square one.

Yes, I now have yet another bill to pay, plus an alignment to get right away.

No, it is not a tragedy.

See, if I hadn’t followed my instinct and taken it in, I could have had an accident due to a blown tire. That could have harmed me, as well as someone else. That’s one benefit.

Second, I did not have to lay out any cash right now and I can also make payments.

Third, I am even more aware of the need for an alignment, and need to put that on my scheduled car maintenance routine.

Father, you really watched out for me this time. It could have been bad. I saw those tires. The outsides looked great. But they were a mess. Thanks for having my back, and for making this problem as easy as possible for me to handle. You always know what to do for me, and I must always keep that in mind. It makes life so much less stressful.
